DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 14 -- The Iowa Department of Commerce's Insurance Division issued the following news release:
The Iowa Insurance Division's new informational tool for consumers looking for health care coverage options is now available on the internet.
The site is called the Health Insurance Information Exchange, and offers ways that consumers can find out about private insurance offerings as well as several publicly funded means for providing coverage for health care coverage needs. The site exists at this web address: http://insuranceinfoexchange.iowa.gov.
The Information Exchange was created as a result of legislation in last year's session that assigned that task to the Insurance Division. The development work on the website occurred concurrently with similar projects occurring at the national level related to the federal health care reform bill passed last year, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Division was able to use some of the information created in the federal web portal for that bill in the development of the state site.
In addition to offering access to information about public and private options for health care coverage, the site will be adding news about developments in the area of health care reform and state-specific health coverage legislative changes, as well as legislative reports submitted by the Division on the topic, as they occur.
