WA: Stolen bus wedged under bridge causes traffic chaos
PERTH, April 16 AAP - A 32-year-old Perth man who allegedly stole and then abandoned
a double-decker bus after it became wedged under a railway bridge will face court next
week.
Police will allege that the big red bus was stolen from the La Bog Nightclub in inner-city
Northbridge during the early hours of the morning.
The 4.3m high bus was abandoned about 7am (WST) after the driver unsuccessfully attempted
to pass under a 3.7m high railway overpass in West Perth.
It is also alleged the man, from Warwick in Perth's north, refused a breath test, drove
with no driver's licence and caused damage at the Perth Police Station following his arrest.
The bus caused chaos during this morning's peak hour, closing one lane of a busy highway
and forcing police to set up traffic diversions.
Police inquiries into the incident were continuing and further charges might be laid.
The 32-year-old man will appear in the Perth Court of Petty Sessions on April 21.
